How to Care Weaves and Hair Extensions.

Weaves and hair extensions are two different techniques of installing hair pieces. Unlike your natural hair, weaves and extensions can't restore themselves once they are damaged. Therefore, taking proper care of your hair pieces is very important to ensure the beautiful longevity of their life. With proper care, your hair pieces can look great and be reused for years.

Step 1

Secure your hair while you sleep. Hair pieces can become easily knotted or tangled at the installation place. Wear a large cotton bandana around your hair while you sleep to avoid excessive friction that might cause damage. Fold the bandana in half dragging one corner to the opposite diagonal corner, creating a triangle. Place the long side of the triangle across the middle of your forehead, continuing around to the middle of the back of your head just beneath all of your hair. Tie a knot underneath your hair to secure the bandana in place. The third tail of the triangle should be hanging over toward the back of your head. Gather all your hair onto your head, within the bandana. Keep the hair in place by tying all three tails together.

Step 2

Wash your hair appropriately. It's best to wash your hair approximately every two days. Washing your hair every day can cause unneeded wear to your hair pieces. In addition, it's important to use shampoos and conditioners that do not contain any detergents or silicones. These ingredients leave excess residue on your hair. In the long run this will cause damage to your hair pieces. Also, detergents will degenerate any glues used during installation, causing your hair pieces to have to be reinstalled sooner. When you're washing your hair, use the tips of your fingers to carefully massage shampoo into your scalp. Be gentle and don't tug or twist to ring out your hair.

Step 3

Use precaution during styling. Gather all of your hair into one hand while brushing with the other hand. This will ensure that you don't cause stress at the installation point. Also, let your hair air-dry rather than using a blow-dryer, and avoid excess heat while using styling instruments. When heat is used, it's best to always apply a heat-protective serum beforehand.

Step 4

Remember to take care of your scalp. When wearing hair pieces it's important to consider the care of your scalp, especially if you have a hair weave. Hair weaves are secured to your natural hair in a fashion that your hair is subjected to product buildup. Use witch hazel in-between washings to cleanse your scalp and natural hair. Witch hazel will also correct your skin's natural PH balance, allowing your scalp to produce the adequate amount of natural oils necessary to maintain a healthy appearance. Rub witch hazel between your hands, and use your fingers to massage the product within your hair into your scalp. Repeat as often as necessary.

Step 5

Schedule regular visits with your beautician. Follow your beauticians advice on guidelines to how often you should schedule a maintenance visit. You will need to retighten your weave or apply new extensions as your hair grows out. Regular visits will keep your hair in good shape.

ROSE™ by Velvet Remi Human Hair Weave - YAKI

Outre by Velvet showed the newest and the highest quality Remy (Remi) Brand, Rose, and also released Rose Remy Yaky Weaves

Why Rose Remy by Outre Velvet?
Rose Remy Weave is raw Remi Human Hair, sourced exclusively from a single, young, healthy donor. Because the hair is unprocessed, pure, and healthy, it is highly reilient.
THE ROSE REMI DIFFERENCE
Rose by Velvet is the most luxurious, exclusive Remi Human Hair product available in the market today. Since the final Product is the healthiest, most fortified hair, the hair stays stronger for longer, and can outlast other Remi Human Hair.
Healthy Hair Selection on Rose Remi by Outre Velvet
The difference begins with the actual collection of raw hair. After the hair is cut from the donor's head. It is carefully inspected. Only the hair that has live cuticles and cortex intact is selected.

Ideal pH Balanceon on Rose Remi by Outre Velvet
Rather than processing and damaging the hair with harsh chemical treatments, we did the exact opposite to the hair with a hydrating treatment. Then, we restored nutrients to the inner cortex of the hair with an exclusive revitalizing treatment, to balance the pH level of the hair and seal in the moisture. By adjusting the pH level of the hair to around 4.5 to 5.5, hair becomes more resilient and smooth. As a result, the hair will have minimized elasticity, extreme moisture, and natural shine. Just an overall, healthy and feel!
Extremely Short "Beard" on Rose Remi by Outre Velvet
We developed a new mothod for manufacturing hair with extremely short "beards". The "beard" is the overlapped portion of hair near the weft. Many consumers have complained about the "beard" sticking out, or irritating and itching their scalp, so we came up with a solution!

Information for Hair Braiding and Extensions (2)

Continued from last post....

Hair Braiding and Extensions

If you are still hesitant about braiding your hair, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Is my hair breaking or brittle?
2. Are my ends split?
3. Is my hair permed?
4. Have I undergone any of the following chemical processes in the past six months: bleaching, frosting, streaking, or highlighting? (Unprocessed henna is not a chemical process)
5. Is my skin sensitive?

If you have answered yes to at least two of the five questions, consult a professional.

It is important to understand that braiding the hair to tight is harmful to both the hair and the scalp. If the hair is braided so tight that you can see the hair pulling away from the scalp, then that is way too tight, resulting in discomfort to the patron and can result in the entire hair shaft including the root (papilla) to be pulled out of the follicle (the opening in the scalp that the hair grows out of). When this happens, it is rare that another hair shaft will grow from that follicle ever again.(tension alopecia) Another situation that can occur is the possibility of the patron's own hair being durable enough to support the weight of the added hair. This is generally caused from medical or medications that weaken the anchoring of the hair to the papilla and/or follicle resulting in the hair shaft to easily pull from the scalp. You can tell when hair is coming from the scalp instead of breaking from the middle shaft or ends. The end that came from the scalp will have a white tip. This is because hair does not get its color until it emerges from the scalp and is exposed to the air. A simple test that you can execute to determine the strength of the hair, is to take a few strands of hair at the ends between your thumb and fore finger, give a slight but quick yank. The area of breakage (if any) will determine if the hair is strong enough to with stand the service Not only for adding hair, but also for any other hair changing service that you may offer. If the breakage is on the ends, split ends cause this. You can correct this by just cutting off the split ends. If the breakage is some where along the middle shaft, this is due to weak hair usually caused by chemical treatments or excessive thermal usage.

To correct this, it will necessitate at least two (2) heat activated conditioning treatments to repair. The treatments should be spaced at least five (5) days apart, and the service done five (5) days after the last treatment. But if the hair is from the scalp, this is a medical problem that can only be addressed by a doctor or dermatologist.

Fruitful Information for Hair Braiding and Extensions (1)

Hair Braiding and Extensions

There are numerous reasons why people may be reluctant to have their hair braided. For the most part, anyone with healthy or slightly damaged hair that is long enough to grasp (at least one inch) can wear his or her hair braided without fear of it falling out. An individual who has badly damaged, weak hair should consult a hair specialist prior to having their hair braided. However, have no fear. Work with your damaged hair, conditioning it regularly and trimming all damaged ends. Braids work wonders on concealing uneven ends and actually help promote growth since chemical relaxers and daily combing are not required.
Below are listed the most common given reasons why women refuse to wear braids. The most common fallacy is people believing that braids cannot be shampooed. Braided hair must definitely be shampooed; however, care must be taken, especially with cornrow hairstyles.

My hair is too short. If your hair is at least an inch long, it is not too short Braids are becoming at any length.

I can't wear them at the job. Employers are not realizing that braids are here to stay Avoid gaudy beads and sloppily braided hair. Your hair is an essential part of your daily grooming.

Permed hair can't be braided. Yes, it can. Avoid tightly braided styles. Perms do tend to weaken the hair; however, if a competent hairdresser has been caring for your hair, there is no reason why it can't be braided.

My face is too fat. As with any other hairstyle, you will have to experiment until you find a style that compliments your facial contour.

Braids are too casual. When was the last time you looked in fashion magazines? Braids are extremely versatile. Entertainers have been wearing them for years. (Stevie Wonder, Cecily Tyson, Valerie Simpson-Ashford, Roberta Flack, to name a few).

Braids are for the younger women but I'm over forty. You're never too young or too old to wear braids. There are literally hundreds of braided hairstyles to choose from. Find a classic style. Don't attempt to wear the same style your teenage daughters are wearing unless you feel comfortable with it.

My hair is too fine. Many customers have fine hair and they enjoy wearing braids.

My hair is too straight. Straight hair can be braided successfully; however, the ends may need to be secured.

My hair is too thin. A lot of scalp may not look appealing; nonetheless, you do have the option of having additional hair braided into your own known as "extensions." This would eliminate thinness.

My hair will fall out. Braiding your hair will not cause it to fall out. If it does, chances are it was falling out before it was braided. Braided hair requires a minimum of daily care. Approximately 200 to 300 strands of hair are normally shed daily. If excessive hair loss is experience, consult a dermatologist or licensed cosmetologist.

THE TYPES AND KINDS OF WEAVING HAIR AND EXTENSIONS

The Kinds of Weaving Hair and How to Care

Some People experience allergic reactions to the added hair that is sometimes blamed on bonding and/extension adhesives. Some commercial hair is from animal sources, some are chemically treated to enhance the appearance or to eliminate some of the cuticles scales to prevent matting, and to smooth or relax the cuticles for easier control and styling. This could be the sources for an allergic reaction. Sometimes people experience breakage of their own natural hair the commercial hair is attached to. This is caused by the natural hair being too weak to support the weight of the added hair. Or, more hair was added then the natural hair could support.

Extensions and weaves
There is nothing like natural hair, but if your hair needs a break or time to recover either one, extensions or weaves are a good choice. Whether your hair needs recovery from former abuse or from a hairstyle gone wrong, these methods will stimulate hair growth if the job is done well. You don't have to wear your hair in a style that you are not comfortable with after a hair disaster. A good weave will add length and fullness to one's hair while protecting it. The same goes for extensions that are correctly braided in one's hair. The emphasis should be placed on protecting one's hair. As mentioned before, hair grows best if left alone. If your hair is well protected by extensions or a weave, the hair has a chance to grow undisturbed, free from pulling and environmental threats like the sun. The advantage of weaves and extensions is really that you can wear any hairstyle while growing your own hair. Most hair loss is from the ends due to splitting. Weaves & extensions protect the ends from harsh treatment that cause splitting, which results in breakage.

Artificial hair types
There are so many types of hair extensions available today that the choices are overwhelming and confusing. So, be prepared before you go shopping for your extensions. Make sure you have a hairstyle in mind and educate yourself on the pros and the cons before you make a choice. Also, be aware of the fact that most artificial hair, even 100 percent human hair, is treated with chemicals. If you are allergic to synthetic, animal or certain chemicals, you might want to test the commercial hair before you buy and certainly before you attach them to your hair.
The most popular and common types of artificial hair are basically make of three different synthetic fibers. They are synthetic, Kanekalon, Tokyokalon and Yaky.

Caring for weaves
Caring for weaves is rather easy because your own hair should be safely protected so you cannot harm it. The hairstyle and the type of fiber you choose will determine your weave care but usually the emphasis will be on keeping the weave hair from tangling. Combing or brushing is not recommended for weave because this causes the weave hair to shed from the weave tracks. Use your fingers to untangle to prevent the weave from shedding. If you need to comb the weave hair or brush, keep one hand on your head below the track while do-ing so. This will not only prevent too much hair from coming out, it will also prevent disturbing the underlying natural hair.

The do's and the don'ts for weaves

• Follow your stylist's advice
Follow the advice of your stylist regarding how to care for your style; ask how often to wash or condition and if or how often a touch up will be required.

• Keep your scalp clean
This is even more essential for weave styles because the scalp is covered all the time creating a hotbed for bacteria.

• Do not sleep on your weave while it is wet or damp
Do not sleep on ycur weave if it is still wet or damp. This avoids matting as well as damage to your natural hair. For longer length weaves, tie up the hair before sleeping on it.

• Prevent Matting
Remove all tangles before wetting or shampooing hair to pre-vent irreversible matting. Do not use hot water on human hair weaves, wigs or extensions, this will cause the hair to swell and become matted.

• Do use a scarf
Sleeping in a cap or scarf will protect your style which will keep it neat for a longer period of time.

• Do not keep a weave style in too long
Three months is the maximum for weaves as well as for exten-sions. If the added hair starts to mat you risk scalp problems and hair breakage. Also, the normal grow out time is 2-3 months.

• After care
Use products sparingly because product residue will build up in the underlying added hair. If you must use a conditioner or a moisturizer, apply sparingly to both added & natural hair. Also rinse thoroughly after shampooing.

Long Weave Hairstyles

Long Weave Hairstyles

Go for long waves with straight ends to achieve a rockstar-inspired hairstyle. Start with extra-long hair that falls to the center of your back for the greatest impact. Add a couple drops of smoothing serum to your tresses to add shine and protect them from heat. Create an uneven center part for a messy vibe. Using a jumbo-barrel curling iron, curl 2-inch-wide sections of hair. Rather than beginning at the ends of your hair, begin curling approximately 3 to 4 inches above your ends. Your rough-and-tumble look is easy to accomplish and super chic.

All-Over Layered Curls

Opt for all-over curls -- this is a carefree look to maintain throughout the day. Even when the wind is blowing at full force, your free-spirited corkscrews look beautiful no matter how they fall. This works best on haircuts with layers throughout. If you love the way your hair curls naturally, add a couple drops of smoothing serum to wet hair and dry with a blow dryer and diffuser. To create curls, blow hair out smooth and then use a 1-inch curling iron on small sections of hair until you achieve a head full of spirals.

High Pony
Going for a long weave hairstyle is a cinch when you choose a high ponytail. This style is sleek and totally ideal for those days when the front of your hair is not cooperating. Apply a dollop of pomade throughout your hair. Slick your hair back with a brush to smooth even the most defiant of flyaways toward your crown. Gather hair into a ponytail and secure with a tonal hairband. For an extra feminine kick, use a large-barrel curling iron to curl your ponytail section by section, and enjoy the major bounce.

Sleek With Bangs

Choose a super sleek look for your long weave hairstyle -- creating this look is a breeze. Unless you're prepared for the big chop, ask your stylist for sewed-in bangs and an overall hair length that reaches several inches past your shoulders. Go for a full set of fringey bangs that angle softly into the rest of your hair. Wear your hair super-straight for a sleek vibe. Spray your hair with a heat protectant and run a flat iron over your tresses for an extra-smooth appearance. Pull your hair forward over your shoulders for a smoldering finish.
